About me
Born on February 26, 1990 in Reims (France), Josselin Kayser is an artist, sculptor and engraver steeped in urban culture. But before he started working in stone, it was to a completely different field that he turned: he planned to become an architect's assistant. Being a creative person and a fan of manual work, Kayser soon realized that this was not the right path for him: he finds it hard to imagine his daily life in front of a computer screen. It was while looking for training in the arts and crafts that he discovered stone-cutting.
After obtaining two diplomas in this field, he found his place in a workshop dedicated to the restoration of historic monuments in Reims and the Champagne-Ardenne region for 10 years. He was responsible for the upkeep of numerous buildings in the “Cité des Sacres”, including the majestic Notre-Dame Cathedral. However, the artistic dimension of his work came later. A man who used to scribble in his school notebooks, engrave his skateboards and let his creativity flow in the street, he created his first work of art on stone in an unexpected way.
After discovering a piece of marble lying abandoned in his workshop, he set about sculpting a piece of it into a Nike Stefan Janoski sneaker, a skateboarder's model. This activity enabled him to merge his two passions: the art of stone carving and street culture. This experience was just the beginning of a wonderful adventure.
Today, Kayser continues to highlight in his work a street culture that for too long has been seen as the antonym of beauty, the enemy of art. His productions prove that urban culture is perfectly compatible with the “noble” artistic practices usually appreciated by the general public.
His love of skateboarding (which he practiced for over 15 years) remains his main inspiration. With each new project, the artist takes a more meticulous approach to his work, constantly striving to perfect his skills and create works that are both faithful to reality and to his artistic approach.
Kayser first presented his world and his work to the public at an exhibition at La Mine in Reims, as part of the artist workshops. Following this event, Kayser chose to showcase her talent at Galerie Parallèle (Reims, FR) and Galerie PapaJosette (Lausanne, CH). His personality and unique works, inspired by urban culture, set him apart from the sculptural artists we usually encounter in France.
